Let Us Empty Purgatory: St. Padre Pio Commanded it and We Can Do it Easily!

By Br. Nishant Xavier –

When St. Gertrude the Great, burning with love for souls, especially the Holy Souls in Purgatory, desired to know from Our Lord Jesus Christ about a simple way in which she could liberate and release 1000s of souls from Purgatory, Our Lord taught her to pray: “Eternal Father, I offer You the Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in Union with the Holy Masses said throughout the world this day [or this month/this year], for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and in my family. Amen”. A beautiful prayer!

We can say this St. Gertrude the Great Prayer Chaplet to release 50,000 Souls from Purgatory in all!

As described on Catholic Tradition, “Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer would release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was later extended to include living sinners as well.

“Eternal Father, I offer thee the most precious blood of thy divine son, Jesus, in union with the Massed said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”

Approval and Recommendation: M. Cardinal Pahiarca at Lisbon, Portugal, March 4, 1936”

Fr. Paul O Sullivan, in his epic work, “Read me or Rue it: How to avoid Purgatory” says of this prayer, “VI. Still another powerful prayer is:

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Jesus, with all the Masses being said all over the world this day, for the Souls in Purgatory. ”

Our Lord showed St. Gertrude a vast number of souls leaving Purgatory and going to Heaven as a result of this prayer, which the Saint was accustomed to say frequently during the day.”

Fr. Paul recommends making the Heroic Act, like St. Gertrude herself did: “VII. The Heroic Act consists in offering to God in favor of the Souls in Purgatory all the works of satisfaction we practice during life and all the suffrages that will be offered for us after death. If God rewards so abundantly the most trifling alms given to a poor man in His name, what an immense reward will He not give to those who offer all their works of satisfaction in life and death for the Souls He loves so dearly.”

Fr. Paul reminds us of the grave obligation we all have to assist the Holy Souls. And of the greatest and numerous blessings which Our Good Lord showers on all those who fulfil the commandments of loving Him and loving our neighbour by assisting the Holy Souls with our prayers and our sacrifices.

“It is very possible that some of our own nearest and dearest ones are still suffering the excruciating pains of Purgatory and calling on us piteously for help and relief.

Is it not dreadful that we are so hardened as not to think more about them, that we are so cruel as to deliberately forget them!

For the dear Christ’s sake, let us do all, but all, we can for them.”

When St. Gertrude came to die, she was abundantly rewarded by the Lord, and made a great Saint, for dedicating her life and all her works to the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

“St. Gertrude was fiercely tempted by the devil when she came to die. The evil spirit reserves a dangerous and subtle temptation for our last moments. As he could find no other ruse sufficiently clever with which to assail the Saint, he thought to disturb her beautiful peace of soul by suggesting that she would surely remain long years in the awful fires of Purgatory since, he reminded her, she had long ago made over all her suffrages to other souls. But Our Blessed Lord, not content with sending His Angels and the thousands of souls she had released to assist her, came Himself in person to drive away Satan and comfort His dear Saint. He told St. Gertrude that in exchange for all she had done for the Holy Souls, He would take her straight to Heaven and would multiply a hundredfold all her merits.”

Here, on Indian Catholic Matters, let us begin a race to Empty Purgatory forever, simply by making use of this St. Gertrude Prayer Chaplet. Let us all vouchsafe to donate, not our money, but our prayers. We can comment saying “50 prayers donated – 50,000 souls saved.” Or, “3 Chaplets completed, 150,000 souls saved”, etc. Let us remember that scientists tell us as many as 100 billion people have lived from the beginning of time. To be safe and sure, it would be good to treat it as if there were 100 billion souls to be saved from Purgatory. And then let us pray, and never cease to pray, until we receive assurance from the Lord that they are delivered!

To release 100 billion souls, we need to pray 100 million times! Or pray the Chaplet 2 million times! Let us begin now and conceivably after 10 years we will be very close to our goal and can total it all.

From the above link: “Cleonice Morcaldi: “There has been no other saint who, every time he was asked, would tell if a soul had been saved, if had gone to Paradise or Purgatory, and say the day and hour of the liberation.”[1] Padre Pio has revolutionized the Purgatory. He often said: “Let’s empty Purgatory”.[2]

  1. An easy way to save many souls from Purgatory: ““Eternal Father, I offer You the Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in Union with the Holy Masses said throughout the world this month, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and in my family. Amen!”
