Assam: Deacon Jonathan Teron Ordained to Priesthood

Diphu: Deacon Jonathan Teron was ordained to the priesthood on 10th April at St. Francis Xavier parish, Rongbongggat in the diocese of Diphu, Assam. The ordination was conducted by Rt. Rev. Paul Mattekatt, the Bishop of Diphu.

The Diocese of Diphu was erected on 5th December, 1983 for Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts of Assam.

Bishop Paul in his homily during the ceremony said, ‘We have one more person to plead before the Lord’. The Catholic Priesthood is neither an occupation nor a profession it is the most sublime vocation to God for His people. It is a calling that goes to the very heart of the person. Through the Sacrament of Ordination, priests receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit and are “signed with a special character and are conformed to Christ the Priest in such a way that they can act in the person of Christ the Head”. (Presbyterorum ordinis  2).

Fr. John Timung the VG in his welcome address remarked, ‘this is a beautiful day in the life of the family of God here in the Diocese of Diphu’.

Fr. Benny Orumbakattu, the parish priest of Ronghbonghat parish exhorted, ‘Brothers and sisters, let’s pray for our newly ordained priest Fr.Jonathan Teron and all our priests. Let’s also pray for vocations to the priesthood, that many more men will hear our Lord’s call to follow him and to be his friends said.

The thanksgiving mass was offered by Fr.Jonathan on 11th April at Jisu a Ning Kangthir Mondoli, Hemari Kiling Arong, Hirihiri.
