Assam: AI and Unemployment – Intellectual Debate Ignites Minds in Dibrugarh’s Don Bosco School

Dibrugarh (Assam): The corridors of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School reverberated with intellectual fervor as the institution hosted an Intra-School Debate Competition on the hot-button topic: “Development of Artificial Intelligence is accelerating unemployment in a country like India”. A congregation of nearly 30 fervent students from Class XI and XII, spanning across the Science, Arts, and Commerce streams, participated in this engaging event.

The primary objective behind organizing this spirited debate was to foster and refine the art of public speaking among the students, equipping them with the invaluable ability to articulate their thoughts and opinions with eloquence and precision.

Fr. K.C. Vincent SDB, Secretary to Regional, South Asia, held the esteemed position of Chairperson for this enthralling event, adding a touch of gravitas to the proceedings. Joining him in this intellectual celebration was the esteemed Principal of the school, Fr. Neljen Antony, whose presence added luster to the event. The competition also benefited from the sagacious judgments of Miss Pinky Misra and Miss Shrabonika Buragohain, both respected adjudicators of the competition.

The debate witnessed a clash of intellectual titans, with two outstanding debaters emerging victorious in their respective roles. Mousum Phukan, eloquently arguing ‘against the motion,’ and Angik Loy Dutta, passionately advocating ‘for the motion,’ left the audience in awe with their compelling arguments and persuasive oratory skills.

As the curtains fell on this intellectually charged event, Fr. K.C. Vincent delivered an enlightening speech that left an indelible mark on the young minds present. He provided valuable insights into the art of debating, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on the topic at hand and refraining from unnecessary diversions.

Don Bosco Higher Secondary School’s Intra-School Debate Competition on AI served as a platform for budding intellectuals to exchange ideas, test their rhetorical mettle, and engage in stimulating discourse about the profound impact of Artificial Intelligence on employment dynamics in India. This event not only honed the students’ communication skills but also ignited their passion for critical thinking and meaningful debate. It was a day where young minds delved into the complex realm of AI, and the echoes of their insightful arguments will undoubtedly resonate in the hallowed halls of Don Bosco for years to come.
