Walk Towards God’s Place of Safety

Readings: Gen 19: 15 – 29; Mt 8: 23 – 27

In today’s gospel we see the disciples were going through two types of human experiences. But, they were aware of only one experience, the experience of terrible fear. What they failed to see was completely hidden from them. They were experiencing the root cause of fear: little faith.

Their trust in Jesus was lacking. They were not aware that he was aware of their desperate need. When we follow the Lord, we need to be convinced that he has complete control over our lives. He looks after all our needs.

Believing in his supernatural strength we need to walk through all things courageously with a clear focus. In the first reading we saw that Lot’s wife came closer to being saved. With her husband she was walking towards God’s place of safety.

However, she turned back to look at the sensual experiences of the world of Sodom. Her action indeed made her perish with the worldly. When we try to hang on to the delights of the world our lives will be disastrous.
