Use Your Talents for His Greater Glory

By Thomas Lima csc –

Readings: 1Thes 4: 9-11; Mt 25 14-30

Today’s first reading reminds us to become the message of love. It means to fall in love with Christ and stay with Christ. Love is the whole point of what life is all about. Love generates equality among all. Love is dynamic and powerful too. It demands growth and new life.

As a Christian, I must love others affectionately and live my life meaningfully. My vocation is to live a holy life. God calls me to become a Saint. For Jesus, to reveal his Father’s will was his mission and the mission was the message of love. For me Jesus himself becomes the core message.

Today’s gospel is the parable of the talents, which reminds me of the talents that God has given me. It tells me to use my God-given gifts to inspire others. Perhaps, it may be singing, praying, playing music, or working hard for the community’s needs. Lk 6:37-38 says, “the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”

It invites me to be ready for sacrifice and to work hard with all my heart and soul and share it with everybody. It is like the servant in the gospel who invests and multiplies into many. Today I promise God to improve and develop my gifts and talents. I am privileged with many things and opportunities in my life. Today I ask God to enhance my life and my life’s work to use them for his greater glory.
