Today we commemorate the Feast of the Guardian angel and it is a befitting day that the world honors the International Day of Non-violence in remembrance of the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. In the gospel reading, Jesus’ servant leadership is compared to the humility of little children which is awe-inspiring.

Perhaps Jesus invites us to imitate childlike attitudes so that we respect and serve everybody regardless of our race, tribe, culture, language, religion, or social status. We are all children of God and God cares for us in many ways. We believe that he protects and guards us by appointing his angel to watch over us. The children are real peacemakers because they are innocent and kind-hearted. We are also reminded to play our role as peacemakers in the society.

War, violence, disputes, riots, and revolts are becoming common phenomena to exercise power and authority over people and of other nations. The tendency to be great prevails in the hearts of many people and nations to project themselves as great amidst others. We can be great in terms of expression of our love, sympathy, non-violence, sociability, caring for others, and environment. Just like a child, we are called to trust God and one another and build this society as a home of love and care..
