Readings: 2 Cor 11:18,21b-30; Mt 6:19-23

Today’s readings speak about the treasure that neither the moth nor rust destroys, and thieves do not break in and steal. Treasures are simply the things that we value and therefore, want to have more of them. As a follower of Christ, what should be my treasure?

St Paul knew what to treasure in his life. He valued Jesus above everything in his life. As a result, he had to endure suffering and negative experiences in his life. He went through all these challenging situations joyfully because he found Jesus as the treasure of his life. Through the gospel of the day Jesus challenges us to examine our heart’s priority. Many times, we fall short in our search for true treasure, because the world teaches us to accumulate wealth, desire position, and gain popularity.

A treasure like wealth, success, position, and popularity is good for us as human beings but we shouldn’t allow it to have control over our lives. Jesus wants us to take him as the treasure of our lives. The meaningful participation in the Eucharist and other spiritual exercises gives us the opportunities to treasure his valuable presence in our lives.
