The Promise of Eternal Salvation

Today the Gospel reading presents to us the arrival of Jesus in Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha to console them over the death of their beloved brother Lazarus, whose body was in the tomb for four days.

Martha was an ardent believer who trusts in the Lord. When she heard of Jesus coming to their village, she left her house immediately to meet Jesus. She said to Jesus, “Lord if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now, I know that God will grant whatever you ask of him.”

Martha trusted that Jesus would heal her brother Lazarus and bring him back to life again. When asked if she believed that Christ is the resurrection and life, she answered that she does believe him to be the Christ the Son of God. St. Martha has shown us a great example of faith and trust in Jesus.

This is the faith we are called to profess and live as Christians. We pray that God may strengthen our faith in him and find our way to his glory. And may we all receive worthily the promise of eternal salvation and life that God has promised to all those who played their trust in him. St. Martha intercedes for us.
