Readings: 1 Sam 11:1-10, 13-17; Mk 4:26-34
Today’s first reading tells that King David committed two heinous crimes, that of adultery and murder because of his lustful desires. There is nothing to be shocked about, either by David’s weakness or by Bathsheba’s apparently willing cooperation. We can also find ourselves in them; especially when we take things for granted and when we allow success of any kind to go to our heads.
That is why King David forgot God who is the centre of his life. He went on doing what was pleasing to him. This story teaches and challenges us to change our way of life. There need not be any boundary in relationship with God, but we need to keep away anything that takes us away from the Lord. The question placed before me is, will I really think about God when
I am in the same situation or become like King David?
In the gospel, Jesus describes the Kingdom of God as a growing seed. Jesus tells us that the small mustard seed has a great potential. Perhaps it may have a capacity beyond human
imagination. The invisible potential of the mustard seed highlights the meaning, values, and purpose in life. Very often this tiny seed is ignored by humans and birds alike because of its size. If a tiny seed can fulfil many needs, what about me with all my abilities and talents? Today, I am invited to become God’s potential candidate to promote growth and values in each one’s heart.
