The Choice of a Christian

By Mini Sherino –

A Christian is one who has partaken in the resurrection of Christ. He is thus expected to be upholding the things of the above, not the things of this world. We are called to imitate Christ. How did Christ discern of what would best suit Him? He considered the ‘will of his Father’ supreme over all other choices. This is what we read in the book of Psalms (Chapter 116:16)

Patience in waiting

The secret of success is attributable to those who have been able to ardently and faithfully wait 10 to see betterment in life. For those whom the Lord chooses, He permits long spans of waiting ( a period of colourlessness and gloom) in order to prepare them to be worthy to accept precious gifts from Him and transform them into icons of blessings in themselves and to others around them. The period trains them to mend their ways, seek things of the above through sacrifices and mortifications. But the Lord teaches us that through this period of hopelessness or pointlessness, his ways are not like ours… that our hearts are so small to discern his Great ways… that whatever transpired was for our ultimate good, the common good to our brothers and sisters.
The common good to our brothers and sisters

No man is an island. We are all called to be part of a society, blessed with relationships… people who love us and are to be loved. Forgetting that selflessness is the key to individual progress, our selfish nature and instincts predate our words and deeds. Though we are called to distance from anger, malice, wrath, slander and abusive language. We are more or less caged by these things or the world. Had we realized that a little more mercy, meekness, understanding and sense of justice is what the world longs from us. We do have something much better and graceful to offer our dear and near.

More time, a forgiving word, more relaxed and accommodative schedule, reverence for others, not the least an innocent smile that can heal any dispirited soul. More than all the firm conviction I would need to uphold that I am none other than the Son or daughter of the Lord Almighty. My thoughts, ambitions, dreams, plans were formed with His connivances and all that has transpired in my life has been within His knowledge. Then why do I still stumble and turn back to the things of this world, to the opinion of others, the appreciation of others and all that keeps me from moving with the Lord in my true dignity…

Our race has just begun… a considerable ground still remains to be covered and we can afford no room for complacence. Setting these against the background of our daily lives we could indeed make even more explicit choices in this world.

Lord, God of Heaven and Earth fill me with Your ‘Spirit of Wisdom’ and provide me Your ‘Revelation’ so as to open and enlighten the eyes of my heart to see things as You see them and to live in this world without falling prey to worldly infatuations. Send Your spirit upon us so that all mankind may be renewed and reborn to worship You with the fullness of heart and mind. Amen!
