Sneha Run 2018: Giving Children With HIV, Hope!

By Verghese V Joseph –

Bangalore: The Eighth edition of Sneha Run/Walk 5K is back!

This 5K run is being held on  December 2 (Sunday), 2018 — the day after the World AIDs Awareness Day 2018 — at Sneha Care Home, Sarjapur Road at 7.00 am. The proceeds from the event will entirely go to support the children living with HIV in Sneha Care Home, Bangalore.

This is the time to come as a family and thereby help build awareness about fitness and about HIV/AIDs among the local population as well among your family and circle of friends. It is an opportunity to liven up the lives of disadvantaged children. In case you can’t run, you can also walk for the cause!

Sneha Care Home (www.snehacarehome.org) and Shining Star School are residential programmes for the children infected with HIV and is owned by the Camillians. The children are within the age group of 4 to 12 under the programme. Most of these children have lost their parents or parent and their normal growth and development seem to be difficult in their home or community.

Many among the 300-plus children at this and other related centres of Sneha Care Trust (SCT) have participated in this event year after year. One among them has gone on to participate in several international running events encouraged by the support and enthusiasm of the runners who come and support this initiative.

Sneha Care Home, an intervention model, is an attempt to create an environment that would help children infected with HIV to grow and become beautiful human beings, who would live their lives joyfully and responsibly, by comprehensively addressing their multifaceted needs. The model which is evolved to meet the long term needs of these children, which aims at future development. Value based formation, which is a key feature of the model, will enable responsible living for these children and will reintegrate the children meaningfully to the larger society. Sneha Care Home is a home for Children Living with HIV (CLHIV). It is the first phase of the SCT initiative for the care of CLHIV.

Started on 14th July 2008 SCH is an attempt to create a model programme to comprehensively address the multiple and complex needs of CLHIV. This is a facility also provides care and support to 80 children from the district of Kolar through its community outreach programme. The goal of SCH is to lay a foundation for their future through value based education and to rediscover their lost future.

Sneha Care Home and Shining Star School are models of intervention for CLHIV. The SCH is reckoned as a learning site for the centres providing care for CLHIV. Sneha Care Home endeavours to produce successful, responsible, confident and creative human beings by creating a happy, caring, and stimulating environment where values blend with academics, where skill development is aptitude-based, and where special needs are addressed through individual attention.

The vision of Sneha Care Home is derived from a prospective reality check about the future of children living with HIV. A fundamental analysis of their life made us to ponder the challenges of these children growing up and becoming adults with the availability of better treatment options. The vision of helping these children face these challenges by adding more years to their lives, more life to their years and more life to their lives was fulfilled with the beginning of SCH.

So go ahead. Take pictures of the run and post it on your social media! You can indeed bring about a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children. Started seven years ago, this run has grown because of the passion for running and the commitment towards social cause by many stakeholders.

The invitation is out to young, old, parents and children or as institutions to the SCH campus. A healthy breakfast will be served to all. There will also have a lively band playing music after the run.

If you are participating as an institution, you help build awareness about fitness and about HIV/AIDs among the local population as well among your employees, their families and their circle of friends. You could use this annual event to reach out to the community for supporting SCT in providing livelihood for these disadvantaged children.

The children are counting on your support for this cause. So go ahead and enjoy!

Run for a difference… Cheer and liven up the spirit of kids living with HIV!
