Seeking out the Lost Sheep

By Brandon, CSC –

Readings: Rom 14:7-12; Lk 15:1-10

The liturgy of the word narrates two parables: the lost sheep and coin with the same theme of repentance. The ending phrases of both parables emphasize the impact of sinners’ repentance, that there is a celebration in the presence of angels of God. It is absolutely true that every conversion brings ray of hope and happiness to their families and I am not exempted from this.

As my dad was addicted to alcohol due to various reasons, I wished and prayed that his willingness to convert himself may bring greater happiness to my family. Whenever people challenge themselves and change their sinful attitude or life, it is because it is for the betterment of their children or their beloved ones.

It is ultimately God who gains a person into his Kingdom. It does not mean that God hates those who are sinful. As a loving Father he provides ample opportunities to his sons and daughters and waits for their return. Today’s gadgets have ruined the ethical conduct of people. It is sad that most of the people are not aware of their unethical behaviors.

Our master Lord Jesus persistently seeks out the lost sheep to repent because he cannot witness his own brethren suffering of any addiction to material goods or an unethical behavior. Lord Jesus, give us the courage to carefront our own parents, siblings, friends and relatives or anyone who may need our help. May your infinite wisdom bring them back to your kingdom.
