Seek the Power of the Holy Spirit

Readings: Mala 3:13-4:2; Lk 11: 5-13

Today’s first reading offers hope and assurance to those who fear the Lord. It reminds us that even in times of suffering and apparent injustice, God is at work, transforming his people and bringing out prosperity and triumph.

The gospel reading asks us to be persistent in seeking the grace of God. A friend goes to his neighbour asking for food, and he is persistent in asking to fulfil his need. We see a Canaanite woman in the gospel who goes to Jesus in order that her daughter may be healed, and she despite an initial denial gets her prayer heard. Likewise, I need to be persistent in asking the grace of God, his spirit of love, care, concern for the needs of others in my daily life.

The gospel passage assures that God will hear and answer the person who perseveres and endures in prayer. When circumstances of life become hard, he will give the presence and power of the Holy spirit to comfort and guide us.
