“Jesus son of David have mercy on me,” what a beautiful and meaningful prayer! In the gospel, the blind man’s cry reminds us of the need for God’s mercy and blessing in our everyday life. This blind man’s need for Jesus was so great that he called Jesus even more loudly despite people telling him to keep quiet. This incident tells us that when we ask God with confidence and trust, our prayer will be rewarded. If not, then also we need to continue to trust and believe in God, because he has a better plan for us.

Today, this divine incident tells us also to look closely within ourselves, ‘how do I see and hear the problems and needs of the poor during this present pandemic crisis?’ Yes, sometimes we feel that the poor and the needy people disturb our peace because they disturb our comfortable lives.

But today we are called to listen to and see the needs of the people, involve ourselves, and contribute towards ending the crisis in whatever ways we can. Let us not allow ourselves to be like the crowd who were unable to understand the need of the blind man, but be like Jesus who fulfilled the blind man’s need. Jesus invites us to follow his footsteps through various activities, incidents, and people. Actually, we miss opportunities every day to do little acts of kindness. So, let us ask God to bless us to recognize these opportunities and to see his presence in our life, in the life of the world and to see what he wants us to see and do.
