Run to Jesus with Faith Not With Fear

Readings: 2 Sam 12:1-7, 10-17; Mk 4:35-41

Today, the liturgy of the word invites us to reflect on our actions and have consistent faith in God. The first reading narrates the consequences of King David’s sin against God. It describes how David was challenged by God through Prophet Nathan. The important point is his repentance and doing penance for his sins.

We too tend to fall into sin, and this often happens because of our inconsistent faith in God. It is seen in the life of King David. But his quick response of taking responsibility for his sin is appreciable, due to which he received mercy from God.

The gospel is about Jesus calming the sea. Here, he not only calms the sea but also calms the Apostles’ fearful, troubled, and faithless hearts. They were with Jesus and witnessed his miracles. But when the fearful and troubled situation came, fear took over instead of faith.

Therefore, they run to him with fear and not with faith. But still Jesus understood the situation of the Apostles and calmed both the sea and the apostles. Therefore, the readings invite us to take responsibility for our actions at any cost and have consistent faith in God. Let us run to Jesus with faith not with fear and see miracles happen.
