Every profession requires its own rules and policies for its practitioners. Companies display several promises, privileges, and favors to attract more members and customers. Publishing advertisement about their organization is common in this present scenario.

We find numerous advertisements on television, social media, in newspapers, etc. But all those things may not be true and but are attractive. But it is not so with our Lord.

In today’s gospel, we find Jesus giving his invitation to follow him. It does not seem to be attractive, rather it is very challenging and demanding.

Jesus is very frank and demanding. He presented the challenges and difficulties involved in following him. He did not want to attract anyone with false promises.

Instead, he is very demanding in his invitation, “if anyone wants to come with me, he must forget self, carry his cross, and follow me.” He promises neither favor nor privileges.

When we look at the world today, we find it very beautiful and it seems like it is going to give us everything for our life. But when we go behind the world it only gives us tensions, worries, depression, and insecurity.

But on the other hand, when we leave the world behind us and accept the invitation of God, though it is challenging and demanding, we get peace, happiness and there is security. Today let us pray to God that we may discern what is good and may hold on to Jesus closely in our lives to find real happiness and peace.
