Hosea’s passage invites us to embrace repentance and return to God, emphasizing the importance of seeking forgiveness and acknowledging our wrongdoings. It reassures us of God’s promise to bless and heal those who turn away from their iniquities and return to him. As we journey through the season of Lent, let us carry God’s word within us and commit to returning to him, knowing that in him, we find forgiveness and abundant life.

In the Gospel reading, Jesus points out the importance of love. His teachings revolve around love and compassion. When questioned by the scribes about the essence of worship, Jesus summarised the entire law into two commandments: loving God and loving one’s neighbour.

The Shema prayer, recited daily by the Jewish community, emphasizes the holistic nature of love, involving heart, mind, soul, and strength. This love serves as a bridge between humanity and God, nature, and among individuals. The love of God and love of neighbour, highlighted in these commandments, surpass any other offering or sacrifice. Today, I am called to nurture these values of love and compassion, fostering deeper relationships with both God and my neighbours.
