My King and Master

By Ginto K. Paulose, CSC –

Readings: 2 Sam 5: 1-3; Col 1: 12-20; Lk 23: 35-43

We see in the first reading that the Israelites wanted to make David as king because they saw that he led the army into victory against Philistines. David conquered them through physical force, with the help of the Lord.

The second reading makes us understand that in the world all things belongs to Christ. Through his death he won over all the evil powers and is now ruling over everything in the universe. As we see in the first reading David becomes king by conquering the Philistines, but Jesus becomes king of the universe by his death and resurrection.

In my life I should be a person who can embrace the cross of life, it is through this cross that I find victory. At times my suffering can bring greater glory to God and I become a true child of God. This feast invites me to be a servant to the sovereign King and to acknowledge in my life that he is my king and master.
