Mumbai: Well-Known Musician Priest Fr Alban D’Souza Passes Away

Mumbai: Fr. Alban D’souza, Acting Parish Priest of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Borivli (W) – Mumbai passed away early on Sunday morning due to a massive cardiac arrest. He was 55 years old.

The mortal remains of Fr. Alban D’Souza will be kept for viewing 8.30 am at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Borivali. The requiem Mass at I.C. Church, Borivali will be celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias at 9:30 am. The viewing of the mortal remains will continue after the Mass. At 12:30 pm, the funeral Cortege departs from I. C. Church, Borivali for viewing at St. Blaise Church, Amboli from 2 p.m. onwards. At 4 pm, there will be a funeral mass at St. Blaise Church, Amboli followed by burial at St. Blaise Cemetery.

Born to Mr. Ramsay Joseph D‘Souza and Mrs. Sheila Mary D‘Souza on 17th August 1965, he was a former student of Our Lady of Salvation High School, Dadar and he did his Diploma in Electronics from Dr. Antonio Da Silva Technical Institute, Dadar. Prior to priesthood, he worked in an engineering firm and also as a teacher in St. Blaise High School, Amboli.

He was part of the Archdiocesan Music training Committee and was a a pioneer and a lead guitarist of the only all-priest band, called the “Ambassadors for Christ”, in the Archdiocese of Bombay. Fr Alban helmed the musical band. For years, this band from the Archdiocese of Bombay, has been belting out hit covers from the 70s and 80s, alongside gospel rock, at several parishes across the city. Dressed in black shirts and trousers, the priests with mikes, guitars and drumsticks, don’t just believe in spreading the word of God through sermons, but also music.
