‘Many Times, I Receive But Forget to Give in Return’

Tarsish Marak csc –

Readings: Sir 27: 30-28:7; Rom 14:7-9; Mt 18:21-35

Today is the twenty-fourth Sunday in ordinary time. On this day the first and the gospel readings speak about the forgiveness of sins.

The second reading tells us that we are not the owner of our life. Jesus asks us to forgive not seven times, “but seventy seven times.” The love of God has no measure and likewise forgiveness has no measure. The love of God is seen in the person of Jesus, who forgives his enemies. The love of God can be given to our neighbors by forgiving their faults. Forgiveness is the gift of God’s love to humanity. How do I practice forgiveness in my life with my fellow beings?

Many times, I receive but I forget to give in return like a first servant in the gospel. we need to acknowledge the service of the other person in our life and offer this gift of forgiveness from the heart. Forgiveness has no cost. Anybody can offer forgiveness. Let us pray that we may be able to practice forgiveness with one another in our daily life.
