Manipur: Teacher from Jesuit-Run School Receives Best Teacher Award

Moirang: A senior-most teacher at St. Xavier’s School Moirang of Bishnupur district, Manipur North East received the Best Teacher’s Award 2020.

The Lion Kh. Ibomcha Singh, the region chairperson of Lion’s Club Committee, gave away the award to Hoamom Mema Devi.

The award consisted of a certificate and a Manipuri traditional shawl.

The awarding ceremony on October 10 took place at the Club Service Centre, Chengei Leikai (village), near Polo Ground Moirang.

Devi has been teaching at St. Xavier’s School Moirang since 1994.

“She has been working for 25 years. She is motherly, caring and supportive. She treats every child as her own. She has been a great asset to the school. Children love her,” said Jesuit Father Felix Montero, principal of the school.

He appreciated her dedication and commitment as a teacher. “It’s a great joy that she is chosen for the teacher’s award by the Lions Club committee,” he added.

Jesuit Father Anand Periera, the former principal, said, “Congratulations dear madam Devi. You deserve the honor for your dedicated service.”

“Mema is true to her profession, a friend, philosopher and guide. To me, she was a faithful companion and to the students. She has been compassionate and understanding of the poor and the weak students. She deserves this award for her genuine service,” said Sister Anita Alva MSI, the former provincial who worked with her in the beginning.

Xavier’s School Moirang is a Jesuits-run educational institution. It is situated 45 kilometers from the south of Manipur’s capital, Imphal.

It was founded in 1991. It is one of the popular schools in India. This school is counted among the top-rated schools in Manipur with an excellent academic track record.
