Make Use of God-Given Talents

By Jijo Philip, CSC –

Readings: 2Mac 7:1, 20-31; Lk 19:11-28

“To all those who have more will be given, but from those who have nothing even what they have will be taken away”. Today through the reading Jesus is inviting me to make use of the talents and gifts that God has given to me so that I may be able to reach out to more people who are in need of my help and support.

When I look at my own life, it is true that whenever I made use of the talents for others, I have received more help than I gave to the people. I also experienced that when I withheld my talents eventually it disappeared from my life. In order to find the pure gold it has to go through lots of purification. In the same way in order to excel in my God-given talents, they have to be used again and again.

God is always ready to help us if only we are ready to surrender to him totally. I like to situate myself in the place of both kinds of slaves: sometimes I make use of the talents that God has given me, sometimes I also hide the talents that he has given me. Today I pray for the grace of God to make use of all the God-given talents for the betterment of my own self and the betterment of the community in which I live.
