Readings: 1Sam 3:1-10, 19-20; Mk 1:29-39
There is no doubt that Jesus is the Son of God. Nothing would be impossible for him, whether curing the illness and diseases of every sort that the people were suffering from, or casting out all demons from those who were possessed.
But there is something that is astonishing, unexpected and amazing: a humility, a humble teaching which is portrayed in the verse 35 “in the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to the deserted place and there he prayed.” We may question why Jesus who is a God needed to pray? Did he really need to pray? Did he run out of power and strength that he needed to pray? Honestly no.
I would say that Jesus wanted to teach us a simple lesson, which each one needs to essentially learn and practice in our life: at the end of the day we need to withdraw ourselves from the hectic activities and spend some time practically conversing with God.
At the end of each day we must say “oh I need some time to talk and listen to God, to examine ourselves and to share with God our Father what we have done and failed to do and also to listen to his voice speaking to us in our heart. He would love it, and he is eagerly waiting.” If Jesus himself prayed while he was in this world, why not we, who are in constant need of our Heavenly Father?
