Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Them

Gospel reading of the day invites us to recognize that Jesus is the son of God and the one who has authority over our death and life. Jesus confirms that everything that he has comes from the Father. And it is through him that we all would attain eternal life. We are called to be like Jesus. He was the way for so many in his time and now, to help people to know God and to inherit the Kingdom of God.

He tells us that we all are created by God and it is only to him that our lives belong, and it is to God that we all return. As human beings, we all make mistakes and sin and thus go far from God’s sight. We get closer to things that give us momentary happiness and keep God at a distance.

Today Jesus tells us to prepare ourselves to receive eternal life, to work in the field of the Father so that we may be pleasing in his sight. Today in a special way, we pray for all the departed souls in our family and the souls that are in purgatory. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.
