In Him We Have Redemption

Thomas Lima csc –

Readings: Eph 1:1-10; Lk 11:47-54

The overall theme of Ephesians is unity of the baptized in the risen Christ. St. Paul opens with a magnificent vision of Christ the Lord, a vision that needs to be compared to the humble man Jesus who walked the roads of Galilee.

Today’s first reading contains the whole theology of the relationship between God and us. It tells us of our worth in the sight of God, of our having been chosen by God before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him. God has loved us freely without any merit on our part, loved us as his very own children.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of his grace that he has lavished upon us.
