God Knows What to Give and What Not to Give

By Sharon Piuse A csc –

Readings: Eph 4:32-5:8; Lk 13:10-17

The first reading talks about being kind, merciful, and forgiving one another and walk in love. Jesus loved everyone and he died for us, so we need to ask ourselves what will I give back to Jesus?

In our daily life, we enjoy the merciful love of Christ. The reading invites us to look into our life. The reading says there is no use doing foolish talk rather than praising and thanking God. As human beings, we are too much concerned about the dark places of our life and complains to God. We forget to look into brighter place of our life and thank the Lord.

In the gospel reading, we see a woman who was sick for eighteen years. Jesus is moved with compassion and heals her. The woman was not expecting a healing from Jesus. But Jesus took the initiative to heal her on a Sabbath. As we live in a community/family, we also need to take initiative to do certain things. There will be different opinions and ideas. It is our choice to select the best and useful ones. When we look into our life, we see many gifts we got from God without seeking them. It indicates that God knows what to give and what not to give. The gospel reading invites each one of us to not criticize God, rather praise and thank him.
