Readings: Dan 7: 9-10, 13-14; 2 Pet 1: 16-19; Lk 9: 28b-36
Today we celebrate the feast of transfiguration of the Lord. Today’s readings give us a glimpse of what will happen when we are in the presence of God.
In today’s second reading St. Peter tells us that we will be like a lamp shining in a dark place. The first reading tells us that the dominion of the Son of God (Jesus) is everlasting, which will not pass away and his kingdom shall not be destroyed. Thus, the glory/joy that disciples enjoyed during transfiguration is everlasting and it is indestructible.
Therefore, this event is offered to us to encourage us and challenge us in our daily lives. This feast invites us to live with Jesus and this is about living with meaning, purpose, and hope. The transfiguration not only offers us the glory of Jesus but also tells us of God’s fulfillment of the promise through Jesus.
Like Jesus today we too can experience the transfiguration. Every time we experience a moment of peace, joy, and readiness to meet the needs of others selflessly that is the moment where God is with us.
Every time we spend time with one another in the community is the moment transfiguration takes place in us. This is not only in our life but also in the lives of others. As Jesus revealed his divine glory to his disciples today, he shows us also the same glory but are we able to see God’s glory in our lives?
