During This Lent, Reflect on Our Own Faith Practices as Christians

Readings: Jer 11: 18 – 20; Jn 7: 40 – 53

In the first reading, we hear of people plotting to kill Jeremiah, aiming to erase his memory from the land of the living.

However, Jeremiah, trusting in the Lord, stood firm in confidence and spoke. “O Lord of hosts, who judge righteously, who try the heart and the mind, let me see your retribution upon them, for to you I have committed my cause”. This passage reminds us that amidst life’s challenges, we must trust in the Lord, confident that he will guide and protect us.

In the gospel, we witness the wavering faith of the people in Jesus. Various opinions about Jesus are expressed: some regard him as a prophet, some as the Christ, while others doubt his origins and even attempt to kill him. This confusion in faith emerges from ignorance and unwillingness to accept, despite witnessing Jesus’ miracles.

As we journey through the fourth week of Lent, let us reflect on our own faith practices as Christians. Are we still uncertain in our faith? Do we still hold on to outdated perceptions of Christ? Are we hesitant to repent and believe that Jesus is the Christ who came to free us from the yoke of sins and lead us to the Kingdom of God?
