Celebrate the Joy of Life Forever

By David Peter, CSC –

Readings: Sir 48: 1-4, 9-11; Mt 17: 10-13

We are in the second week of the Advent, a journey of preparing ourselves to welcome Jesus into our hearts and lives. Word of God of today’s liturgy invites us to reflect on our preparation to welcome Jesus amidst us. The reading places before us two great personalities – Prophet Elijah and John the Baptist – who have played a vital role in leading and preparing the humanity to receive and have an experience of God.

Love of God and Love of humanity are the core of Jesus’ coming. The conversation of Jesus and his disciples in today’s Gospel reveals that Jesus is the Messiah long expected by all, especially by the Israel the chosen people of God. It is also a way of giving assurance that God is always true to his promises. It is a profound invitation to each one of us to restore our life from all our human limitations and sinfulness.

We have to build our life on the word of God as a means of restoring our life to God. What is my preparation to receive Jesus? Am I genuine in my preparation? How do I help others to prepare to receive the great Joy of Jesus’ birth in their life? Let us seek God’s grace that we may prepare ourselves and welcome Jesus and celebrate the Joy of life forever.
