Readings: 2 Tim 1: 1 – 8; Lk 10: 1 – 9

In the first reading, we encounter Paul, extending greetings of peace to Timothy and offering continuous prayers for him. As Paul conveys peace and continues his prayers for Timothy, he urges him to boldly embrace the mission of Christ for the suffering in the world, placing trust in God’s power. The Gospel portrays Jesus dispatching his disciples in pairs to various places, endowing them with power and authority for healing and casting out evil.

Jesus emphasizes the importance of earnest prayer before embarking on their missions, cautioning against succumbing to temptation. He instructs them to greet peace wherever they enter. The disciples are advised to travel without excessive physical provisions and preach amidst the challenges of the Evil Kingdom. Today, Jesus emphasizes the significance of prayer at the outset to ensure the goals are glorified in the end.

The readings challenge Christians to boldly support the weak and spread the gospel in a world plagued by various evils. Jesus, having called us to work in his Love, sends us on a mission to bring more co-workers for God’s glory. Trusting in divine providence, let us go the extra mile for those who have strayed from God’s Kingdom and bring them back home.
