B’luru: Chairman Emeritus Archbishop Ignatius Pinto No More

Bengaluru: His Grace Most Reverend Dr Ignatius Paul Pinto, Archbishop Emeritus of Bangalore passwed away on Wednesay at 1.30 a.m. in Bangalore. He was 98 years old. Funeral details are awaited.

He was being taken care at Home for the Aged, Little Sisters of the Poor on Hosur Rd, Richmond Town.

Archbishop of Bangalore Dr Peter Machado in his message said, “I am sad to report that our beloved Archbishop Emeritus Most Rev Ignatius Pinto (98 years) is no more. He passed away around 01.30 am in the today (8th Feb 2023) at the Senior Citizens’ Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor at Richmond Town, Bangalore. The funeral details will be made known to you later. May his soul rest in peace.”

Archbishop Pinto was born on May 18, 1925, and ordained on August 24, 1952. On 14th November, 1988 the Rt Rev. Msgr. Ignatius Pinto, Vicar General, Archdiocese of Bangalore was appointed its First Bishop by His Holiness Pope John Paul II through his Apostolic Letter “Bonevolentiam Quidem Nostram.” The Episcopal Ordination of the first bishop of Shimoga took place on 31st January,1989, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral ground, Shimoga. He was promoted as Archbishop of Bangalore on 10th September 1998 and installed on 25th November, 1998.

  1. His Emeritus was an assistant parish priest in 1952 in our lady of Victories Church kgf Bangalore archdiocese.
