Belagavi: Eminent Educationist Mother Grace Mathew Passes Away, Funeral on Mon

Belagavi: Eminent educationist and former superior of Divine Providence Convent, Tilakwadi, Belagavi belonging to the Canossa Congregation of Nuns, Mother Grace Matthew (87) passed away on February 1. Mother Grace who also served as principal and in various senior capacities across the nation in many institutions died after a brief illness in Belagavi. At the time of death she was serving as the coordinator of Su Sandesha Kendra at St Anthony’s Church Campus, Camp, Belagavi.

Born in Angamaly near Ernakulam in Kerala June 29, 1933, after completion of her primary education Mother Grace joined the Canossian Sisters in Belagavi in 1952. Later she completed her higher education in teaching in India and a special course for teaching the dumb and the deaf at Milan in Italy.

During her creditable service for the society she served as teacher, principal and superior at various institutions and convents in Belagavi in Karnataka, Vasai and Talasari in Palghar district of Maharashtra  Manipur, Allahabad and also served in Milan, Italy for a few years. Along with English, she was well versed in Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Malyalam and Italian.

Known for her passion for the orphans in the society, Mother Grace has helped in educating and rehabilitating a large number of orphans during her commendable service.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 3 at 10.30 am at Fatima Cathedral, Camp, Belagavi followed by burial at the Christian Cemetery near Race Course, Club Road, Belagavi.
