Being in the Family of Christ Jesus

BY Ginto K. Paulose, CSC

Readings: Rom 6:19-23; Lk 12:49-53

The readings make me to ponder and reflect on my priorities. The first reading reminds us that we are weak physically. Our aim and goal should be God who is strong and the ultimate happiness. It is our complete surrender to God that brings unity and happiness.
The gospel reading gives clear warning to each one of us.

It reminds us to keep our priority in Christ, not in anything else, and that it is a constant struggle. Sirach 2:1 says, “my children when you come to serve the lord prepare yourself for testing.” God will test us through different ways in different circumstances.

As religious we should be able to take this cross happily and do the will of God. As readings tell us let our priority be only Jesus so that we will be able to serve the Lord in one mind and spirit. When we keep Lord as our centre the gifts of the Holy Spirit will guide us. These gifts will help us to live together as family of Christ Jesus.
