Become More Like Jesus

Readings: Dan 7:9-10, 13-14, 2Pet 1:16-19, Mt 17: 1-9

Today we celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. In the first reading of today’s liturgy, we are given the vision of One of Great Age and one Son of Man, which prefigured the relationship between the Father and the Son in the Holy Trinity.

In the second reading St. Peter who was an eyewitness of Christ in transfiguration gives an account of the event on Mount Tabor.

Therefore, all of today’s readings speak about the glorification, self-revelation, and transfiguration of Jesus. The divine events like transfiguration give us the invitation to become partakers of God’s divine nature and present divinity to the world through our words and deeds. Through the transfiguration the Lord has revealed to us what we are called to be in the present and future.

We learn more and more about Christ and his works each day, through prayers and scripture readings. Day by day we need to become more like the transfigured Christ who shows us the path to salvation and grace. Our attitudes and dealings must be in line with what He expects of His followers. Let us be open to the prompting of the Holy Spirit in our life so that we can experience a change in our hearts and become more like Jesus.
