Four weeks of preparation to witness the birthday of Jesus is going to yield fruit as we celebrate Christmas today. The WORD which was with God from the beginning becomes flesh to be with us, live with us and teach us to live a life that pleases God. To teach us the values of life, God speaks to us through many people like prophets, apostles, and disciples and now he himself comes to us in the person of Jesus Christ.

This incarnated Jesus is the light of all nations. Therefore, he has come to give us life in abundance. Especially during this pandemic, the birthday of Jesus is relevant, as many Christians still cannot go to the church for celebrations as they are used to. The angel’s song reminds us that the birth of Jesus has brought glory to heaven and peace on earth. To experience this peace on earth and in each one’s family, all of us are called to celebrate his birthday as we celebrate any child’s birthday in our families. Yes, each one of us must feel that Jesus is born in our family to be a saviour and that he is a saviour to those who believe in him.

Today’s Gospel reading promises that whoever receives Christ will be empowered to become the children of God. He adopted us as children of God. Therefore, we must bear witness to this light which has brought us the light of salvation.
