Be United in God’s Celebration

By Jessel Cutinha csc –

Readings: Jgs 11:29-39; Mt 22:1-14

God’s call is an invitation to celebrate, to celebrate union. Maybe that is why Jesus uses the image of marriage in today’s gospel. Marriage symbolizes the union of hearts, families, and is celebrated not only with near and dear ones but with all.

This is an invitation to be in union with God and with his people. How do I respond to this invitation? In the gospel, those who were invited were too busy, gave excuses, and did not respond to the call. Am I too busy with my work, studies, or life that I fail to receive and accept the invitation of the Lord? Am I consumed by the smartphone, computer, and television that I fail to hear the call of God and respond to his invitation?

For today’s wedding feast, we all are invited to enter the celebration of union with Christ, through Christ to Church, through Church to society and families. God’s call is for all, irrespective of one’s status, position, colour, or gender. Whether a person is small or big; young or old; beautiful or ugly; all are invited to God’s celebration. When need arises, we should be ready, attentive, and ever willing to respond to this call. Our response to the call is what makes us united in God’s celebration and our response to the call makes us to be the chosen ones.
