Be Accountable in All Things

By David Peter csc –

Readings: Dan 13: 51-62; Jn 12: 1-11

Today’s liturgy of the Word Invites us to reflect on the consequences of an unjust act in the sight of God. The first reading has the story of Susanna, who was condemned to death by elders of the time without having the right knowledge and awareness of truth. The loud cry of Susanna to God spared her life through Daniel.

Today, it is important for all of us to examine ourselves with just judgment. In life, we all have a situation of judging ourselves and others. Let us use the power rightly after thorough examination rather than going along with the voices of the crowd, and for personal agenda. The act of Daniel in today’s first reading is a call for all of us to stand for truth, with courage, self-giving, and honesty.

In the gospel reading, we see Mary anointing Jesus. There are two types of attitudes I witness: One is the attitude of Judas, which was self-centered. The other is the attitude of Mary which had the expression of her deepest love for Jesus. Mary’s true love is never limited in giving earthly things, it goes beyond even the most expensive things in the world.

Let us ask ourselves what attitude we have in our daily lives. As clergy or consecrated people who hold different offices dealing with money. Let us be accountable in all things as an expression of our love for Jesus and humanity.
