Ask the Lord for the Grace of Discernment

Readings: Acts 8: 26-40, Jn 6: 44-51

The first reading of the day portrays the Ethiopian eunuch, who listened to the words of Philip which was read from the scroll of Prophet Isaiah and voluntarily got baptised.

The gospel passage of the day clearly says that Jesus is the living bread, which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever. Jesus affirms that it is the Father who draws people to him. Jesus solemnly declares that the Bread is his life, which he would give for the World. His flesh has been offered in sacrifice for the salvation of the whole humanity. Whoever in the society accepts the teachings of Jesus Christ, comes to know God and perceive Jesus as the Son of God.

As ordinary human beings we should understand that everything happens in the world because of the loving initiative of the Father. If I want eternal life, I should have a deep faith in Jesus who is the Saviour. We are already destined to attain everlasting life with Jesus. In our daily life, many things draw our attention, and we pay special attention to a few. Children are easily drawn towards beautiful teddy bears or chocolates. Youths are drawn to stylish vehicles and expensive gadgets. Parents are affected by the comments of their neighbours.

As members of Christian community each one should be drawn to the Father by the values of the Kingdom: Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Kindness, Faith, Respect, and Understanding. We all are drawn by Father. We should have a good relationship with the neighbours and live our life joyfully and faithfully that which is pleasing to God. So, let us ask the Lord for the grace of discernment to know the values of God which draws closer to him.
