Ask Lord to be a Lamp to Our Feet

Readings: Ezra 9:5-9; Lk 9:1-6

The reading of the day invites us to reflect on the theme “take nothing for the journey”. Today in the world we witness injustice, suffering, inequality, poverty, corruption, and so on. Many times we are directly or indirectly affected, and as a result, we either become a cause of the problem or a victim. We cannot avoid it due to the society and more importantly due to our shortcomings and limitations.

Prophet Ezra reminds us in the first reading that God does not forsake us despite all our iniquities. Whenever we call him in distress he answers us. He provides us ample chances and opportunities to come back to him and take his work forward. We are capable of responding to his unconditional love with the help of his grace.

In the gospel, we are invited as Jesus’ disciples to bring change in the society. Jesus knows the potential and weaknesses of his disciples, but still he entrusts them the power and authority to cast out demons and to heal.

Being the disciples of Jesus in our time we definitely will face success, failure, rejection, persecution, trials and temptations throughout our life. Our persistence, humility, sincerity and commitment will pave way towards building the trust in Jesus. So, we pray and ask Lord to be a lamp to our feet so that we may be able to spread his love and mercy to others in our life.
