Arunachal: Unique Way of Raising Funds for Mission Sunday! Way to go Miao Diocese!

By Fr. Felix Anthony

Miao: A mission Diocese in North East India raised fund for the mission in a unique way to participate in the World Mission Sunday on 21 October.

People in Miao Diocese in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh raised fund for the Mission across the world by selling farm produce to celebrate World Mission Sunday.

The faithful in Sacred Heart Parish, Neotan in Changlang District brought varieties of organic farm produce like banana, pumpkin, spinach, yam, chili, papaya, and chicken, all produced in their own farms, for auctioning after the mass Sunday Mass.

The village Catechist, Mr. Chomjung Mossang and the Parish Youth President, James Mossang, led the auction. The three country Chickens had the highest bidding, each going for over a thousand rupee.

“We love our Church and we want to do our bit to help the Mission of the Church across the World. We have nothing to offer except what we produce in our filed. Selling it today after Mass and contributing the money towards the Mission gives us the most satisfying feeling of helping the Church”, said Mrs. Nemdung Mossang at the end of the fund raising event.

We have planned a local food festival next Sunday and we have asked the people to skip the breakfast and spend the money at the food festival to contribute towards the mission, said Miss Nangtim Mossang, a youth leader of the village.

Similar events are held across Miao Diocese every year to raise fund to celebrate Mission Sunday.
