Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Thomas who is honoured as the apostle of India. He is remembered as someone who refused to believe the other disciples in their claim that Jesus is risen from the dead. Being fragile as a human being he failed in accepting the testimony of his companions. And Jesus who knows every human heart knew how to touch the heart of
Thomas. When the disciples were together suddenly, he appeared, stood amid the disciples, and called Thomas for belief.

Jesus did not get angry or become upset with Thomas, instead he greeted him with peace. In a similar way, Jesus offers his peace and comfort even when we are in doubt and fear. He invites us to be the people who acknowledges our mistakes and ask forgiveness. He wants us to be like Thomas who has the openness to turn to him seeking mercy. Moved by the compassionate approach of the risen Lord, Thomas made an open and public confession of him as his Lord and God. His profession became a great act of commitment and surrender. May this great apostle of Christ continue to inspire us to form our faith without having to see evidence and proofs.
