Allow the Spirit of the Lord to Work in Us

Readings: 1 Tim 6: 13 – 16; Lk 8: 4 – 15

The readings of today invite us to be patient in our lives. In the first reading St. Paul urges us to keep the commandments of the Lord so that we are ready for the second coming of Jesus. It’s not an easy task but we have to do it patiently. Patience is the mother of all virtues (Carlos Zafon). Patience is not just about waiting, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. The moment we show our readiness to follow God, he gives us his grace and accompanies us in times of trials and tribulations.

In the gospel we hear the parable of the sower and Jesus explains the parable to his disciples. We hear and read the word of God but how much do we allow the word of God to work in our lives?

We are not just called to be the hearers, but to follow the word of God faithfully and patiently. We come across lots of difficulties and temptations from internal and extremal forces and its not easy to follow the word of God. We need to make constant efforts and ask the grace of God to strengthen us to face challenges and temptations. God has created each one of us with a purpose and to bring newness in the society in which we live. Let us allow the Spirit of the Lord to work in us so that we may bear much fruit and glorify the name of the Lord.
