We may have heard, “honesty is the best policy”, but in today’s gospel we get the impression that Jesus is appreciating the dishonesty of the shrewd manager. Does Jesus encourage dishonesty? No, Jesus commends the manager for his shrewdness, but not for his dishonesty. He is not asking us to be dishonest. Rather, he is asking us to be shrewd and to examine our lives.

The parable teaches us that we should use our resources wisely and make the most of what we have. We should be good stewards of what God has given us and use it for his glory. We are all accountable to God for our actions and decisions.

We need to be honest and responsible caretakers of God’s possessions, and care for our brothers and sisters as well as all creation. We are invited to acknowledge our past failings and strive to demonstrate our faith in God by being honest and responsible in all aspects of our lives.
