In today’s gospel we have the visit of Mary to Elizabeth. Mary entered the house of Elizabeth and greeted her. When Mary greeted her the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaped in joy and she was filled with Holy Spirit.
Under the influence of the Spirit Elizabeth proclaimed the uniqueness about Mary and her child. She said, “blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb”. Elizabeth was the first person to know about the arrival of Messiah other than Mary.
Elizabeth rejoiced over Mary’s call and called the baby in her womb ‘My Lord’. Mary’s ‘Yes’ to God’s call brought the good news of salvation to the world. When I say yes to the will of God, I become good news to the people around me. Mother Mary’s visit bearing Jesus in her womb brought joy to Elizabeth and her baby.
As we are nearing the celebration of Christmas let us give ourselves to the power of the Spirit and make known the presence of Jesus through our service and kind deeds.
