The readings of the day invite us to reflect on the theme “faith and compassion”.
The readings invite all of us to be rooted in Jesus Christ. It is the faith in God that leads us at all times and helps us to be connected with each other. In the first reading Saint Paul reminds all the Christians, especially the deacons, to be serious, bold in faith and to be exemplary as they are servants to his mission.
In the gospel, Jesus feels one with a grieving mother and consoles her by saying ‘do not weep’. Jesus being a compassionate lover, caretaker and joy-giver, shares his compassion at all times. Because of his compassionate love, he comes forward and touches him by saying “young man, rise.”
This is a visible gesture of God that God is compassionate and merciful. But today as we look at our present world how is God’s love made real in the world especially, to the sick, to the poor, and to anyone in need? As followers of Jesus, we can make Christ’s love become real only through our compassionate love and kindness. Therefore, we must introspect and ask ourselves how aware we are of the needs of others around us, in our community, in our society and above all in our own families.
