In the Old Testament, God made many covenants, but his people frequently broke them. He promised to establish a new, everlasting covenant, which is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, as we read in the letter to the Hebrews today. Jesus is the new covenant, offering us eternal closeness with God. This promise assures us that God’s presence and guidance are always available.
In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus chooses twelve apostles to preach, heal, and cast out evil spirits in his name. For us, they serve as examples of how we must live out our faith—by sharing Christ’s healing presence with others. St. Francis de Sales, the saint of the day, teaches us that “the most important thing is to live in the present moment with a peaceful heart, trusting in God’s guidance.” He reminds us that holiness does not require extraordinary acts but faithfulness in our everyday lives.
Just as the apostles were sent to spread God’s message, we too are called to live with love, gentleness, and patience in all that we do. God’s new covenant writes his laws on our hearts, helping us to discern right from wrong. Through Jesus, we are called to follow him, trust him, and share his love with everyone. When uncertain, we can turn to God, confident that he will guide us. St. Francis de Sales encourages us to embrace his guidance with peace and trust, knowing he is always with us.
