Sin came into the world because of disobedience to God’s law, and one man’s obedience to God’s promises made us righteous with God. Righteousness leads to justification and the fullness of life is found there. Adam brought sin and death to all but by the love of Jesus we are made free from the sin and given life in fullness.
I should be aware of my life because it is I who can make changes in life, or to choose light or darkness. To become a light to the world and others, I need to pray constantly, listen, and meditate on the word of God, participate in the Holy Eucharist and be aware of his presence. Therefore, the gospel reading invites me to be watchful for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in every moment of my life. As a child of God and as a Christian, I have received the light of Christ through the sacrament of Baptism.
Therefore, I am called to be a beacon of light in darkness. There will be many challenges and difficulties to put out the light of Christ in me leading me to lose focus on God. So, to become strong in God, I need to prepare early and be awake to welcome Jesus. As a follower of Christ, I need to be vigilant and prepare spiritually, look forward and anticipate his coming.
I need not spend time in Church all through the day and night in order to welcome Jesus, but I am called to pray and worship and be aware of his presence. In fact, the Bible tells me that my body is the temple of God and I am in the temple day and night. As Paul says, ‘whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do all for the glory of God.’
It is an invitation for me to be faithful in doing my responsibility, be watchful and ready to welcome Jesus in my heart.
