Receive Jesus as He is and not as we Want Him to be

The role of a teacher is to teach the students and to make sure that the students learn the lessons well. In today's gospel reading, I see Jesus being a good teacher, after knowing the opinions of the people about his identity asked the disciples to reveal their knowledge about him.

Responding to the question ‘Who do you say that I am’ Peter said, “You are the Messiah” Peter’s confession arose from a personal learning and conviction.

This is the confession that lays the foundation for my life in Christ. I am expected to study more and experience Christ at a personal level. After the confession of Peter, Jesus went on to reveal more about himself. He did communicate that he is also the suffering
Son of Man who would be rejected and put to death.

Peter had difficulty in accepting this revelation of Jesus. He didn’t want his master to be a suffering servant. Similarly, sometimes we do have difficulty in accepting Jesus as he is. Let us pray that we may grow in receiving Jesus as he really is and not as we want him to be.
